We were recently given the chance to watch a live performance of Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox live at the O2 Apollo in Manchester.
The venue’s Art Deco style itself was very appropriate for the bands styles of music and aided in setting the scene for the night. Many of the people who had come to watched also dressed up. Lots of the girls had done vintage hair styles (victory rolls everywhere). There was a real sense of excitement in the air and atmosphere.
The show was hosted by a confident Ariana Savalas in a quirky cool manner, with a jet lagged Scott Bradlee making an appearance towards the end of the show. They celebrated the success of the group and featured many songs from the viral youtube videos.
The show opened up very strong with Von Smith’s rendition of Call Me Maybe backed by the talented band with the very cool drummer. Other highlights included the three girls singing “Bye, Bye, Bye” and of course “Blank Space”. The crowd also loved Casey Abrams’s All About The Bass skills.
Giving the vocalists a break, the band played a medley of songs with a tap dancer.
When Scott Bradlee arrived he asked for requests to play on piano by the audience.Being a Manchester gig, a large portion of the audience cried out Wonderwall ! When he asked for another song the cried out “Wonderwall again, Wonderwall everytime” in the end he got some different songs to add in and played a mix of “Thriller”,”Ghostbusters theme”,”Wonderwall”,”Piano Man” and “Heart Of Glass”.
The show included all manner of entertainment; tap dancing, fun instruments, flowers thrown and even a little bit of a lap dance !
An enjoyable evening, recreating the vibe of the videos.Though would of even better if Haley Reinhart and Robyn Adele Anderson had joined them too !
We spoke to two of the other people who had attended after the show heres what they had to say:
- “A little surprised when Scott Bradlee turned up about three quarters of the way through to be honest. I thought he would of been playing the piano the whole way through.”
- “Amazing, what a night, absolutely cracked up at wonderwall”
