Chuck Berry

Im sure you will of all by now heard the sad news of the death of the legend Chuck Berry. This week we decided we would share some of his greatest songs and one of the many covers by other artists of his songs. He also has a new album coming out on the 16th of June called “CHUCK”.

Kicking things off here is his most famous:

Heres one of his more cheeky numbers:

Heres a song which certainly “inspired” a certain Beach Boys song :

Heres the one and only  JD McPherson’s cover of Carol:

Max Hixon – Lovesick Loverboy – Review

Last week we took a look at Max Hixon’s Lovesick Loverboy single.

Yesterday Max released his first Album by the same title. Max has not only written & produced every song on the album, but has impressively performed it all himself painstakingly mulitracking each instrument.

He also edited the videos himself (with a little help to shoot them).

As we said last week the title track Lovesick Loverboy is truly outstanding and we are pleased to say that the rest of the album follows suit.

One thing we really did like is the tracks all sound individual and doesn’t all blend into one mass of noise like many albums we are sent.

Heres the track rundown: (See last weeks post for Track one)

Track 2 – “Picture Of Perfection” is a classic late 50’s early 60’s pop song which could be compared to songs like: Unchained Melody or The Great Pretender.

Track 3- “What Has Happened To Our Love” is a Del Shannon inspired song and has a really cool feel to it with an Organ making an appearance.

Track 4 -“Loneliest Man” is a moody stripped back Rockabilly Blues number with hints of songs like “All I Can Do Is Cry” about it.

Track 5 -“Loveless Arrangement” is a refreshingly modern sounding song which seems to be inspired by artists like Dion.

Track 6 – “Stolen Heart” is bound to be a new Rockabilly classic.

Track 7 – “Daydream Girl” is a simpler song with some catchy upright bass work.

Track 8 – “Where You Hidin’ Baby” Another very contemporary take on the Rockabilly sound.

Track 9 – “Dream On” – We’d say this one would fit onto a Dreamboats and Petticoats album pretty well.

Track 10 – “Tonight Is All For You” – This track really complements “Dream On” and has great pace to it.

Track 11 – “Call Somebody Honey” – A much heavier Rockabilly song with hints of Imelda May and Brian Setzer.

Track 12 – “Finally Fall In Love” – This acoustic track is like a part B to Picture Of Perfection and is a really great way to end the album.

Well done Max a fantastic debut album which we would call a: Gold Album

Max Hixon – Lovesick Loverboy – The Single – Out Now !

We are always happy to introduce you to  a new artist and we are really loving this new single by British Singer/Songwriter Max Hixon. Its a real catchy proper rockabilly track with modern lyric writing.

The Songwriting is absolutely top notch and i’m sure Max will become a new favourite for many of our readers. Easily on a level with some of the ReChords or Bellfuries releases which is really saying something.

The bassline is reminiscent of a classic sun early Elvis or Johnny Cash tune. The double bass doubled by the guitar makes it a central part of the piece. The vocals are very clear and you can hear every word. Overall a really nice mix.

He is also one of the first artists on the newly formed Moondream Records which we are sure will have a promising future if this single is anything to go by.
