Postmodern Jukebox – The Essentials – Vinyl – Concord/Decca – Review

A few weeks ago we were given the opportunity to review the live show of, Youtube sensation, Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox in Manchester. This week we will review the Vinyl version of The Essentials album which has been released this month.

We tested out the two Vinyls on a 1950’s Monarch record player and it certainly looked the part !

This album could be seen as the “best of” collection for PMJ and contains 18 tracks spread across 2 LPs. Its contains many of the tracks from the ten track “Now That’s What I Call Vintage” album previously released by PMJ.

Full of clever arrangements by Scott Bradlee the album reinvents modern (and some other popular) songs into a mixture of Vintage styles. The varying vocalists make for a much more interesting album with each performer adding there own individual spin to the song.

The Album was also Produced,Arranged,Mixed and Mastered by Scott Bradlee which is certainly an impressive feat.

          The Tracks Included:

  3. Creep
  4. All About That Bass
  5. No Diggity
  6. I Believe In A Thing Called Love

  18. Such Great Heights

The stand out tracks on the album are: Sweet Child O’ Mine, Royals, Burn and Seven Nation Army. These we would say are the hits of album and if you had to condense the album would be the tracks you would keep.

An interesting quirk of the album was that one of sleeves contained instruction on how to make cocktails to go with the music. Its certainly a nice album for collectors and vinyl certainly suits the style of music they are playing. Its great to see a resurgence in the popularity of Vinyl and Physical music.

Certainly a good album to get if you are a fan of Postmodern Jukebox. The album is also available as CD and Digital Download and you can visit PMJ’s store by clicking purchase here below.
